Larger and plainer than its ornate relative, the robust ghost pipefish blends into seagrass beds and algae-covered rubble at Masaplod Norte with cryptic green and brown mottling. Their concealment is so effective that guides often locate them by searching methodically along seagrass blade tips where pairs orient to drift with the tidal flow.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
