Garuae Inner Lagoon
Fakarava · French Polynesia
The inner lagoon side of Garuae Pass is a gentle drift through a sandy channel flanked by coral bommies and patch reefs rising from 20 m. This is where the big-pass current dissipates into a pleasant 1-knot glide over garden eels swaying in unison from the sand, with blue-spotted stingrays resting between coral heads. Schools of golden trevally and juvenile sharks frequent the shallower bommies. The site is ideal for a second dive after the full Garuae drift and works at all skill levels thanks to the manageable flow inside the lagoon.
