The Cíes Islands host one of the highest nudibranch diversities on the Spanish Atlantic coast, with Flabellina species particularly abundant on the hydroids that encrust granite walls. Macro photographers regularly record 15 or more nudibranch species on a single dive, ranging from vivid purple flabellinids to the cerata-rich Facelina auriculata.

How is this calculated?

Sighting evidence is compiled from iNaturalist observation records within a set proximity radius, filtered for quality-grade observations. “Last confirmed” is the date of the most recent research-grade record. Record count covers a rolling 24-month window. Confidence reflects record count, recency, and consistency of seasonal signal.
