Danzante Island
Loreto · Mexico
Danzante Island lies within the Parque Nacional Bahía de Loreto and offers the archipelago's richest big-animal encounters, with manta rays gliding over boulder-strewn slopes and whale sharks making regular appearances along the island's western channel from June through October. The reef system descends from 5 m to 35 m along a series of rocky ridges draped in sea fans and black coral bushes, with visibility regularly exceeding 25 m in the clear, unpressured waters of this protected zone. Bull sharks patrol the deeper sandy channels between 25 and 35 m, a sobering but genuinely thrilling encounter for experienced divers.
