Prony

Mayotte · France

A submerged seamount on the outer reef slope of Mayotte that rises from 50 metres to a broad summit plateau at 18 metres, acting as a cleaning station and aggregation point for resident oceanic manta rays that circle the pinnacle in hypnotic barrel rolls. The site combines dramatic underwater topography — overhangs, chimneys, and sponge-encrusted walls — with reliable large-animal encounters that have made it the most celebrated dive in Mayotte. Hammerhead sharks and eagle rays complete the pelagic picture, particularly on incoming tides when the current brings nutrient-rich water up from depth.
