Gamat Bay
Nusa Penida · Indonesia
Gamat Bay is one of Nusa Penida's more sheltered sites, making it an excellent choice when currents are running hard elsewhere. The bay features gently sloping coral gardens transitioning to a wall on its eastern edge, with pristine hard and soft coral communities that escaped the coral bleaching events more severely felt on other sites. Macro life is exceptional here — pygmy seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish, nudibranchs, and frogfish reward patient divers. The sheltered nature of the bay makes it suitable for all experience levels and a favoured morning dive before operators move to the more demanding sites. Night dives reveal mandarin fish, octopus, and hunting lionfish.
