Bisevo Wall

Vis Island · Croatia

The eastern wall of the tiny island of Bisevo just south of Vis drops sheer from the waterline to 40 m and is one of the most biologically rich walls in the central Adriatic. Giant grouper up to 30 kg lurk in the overhangs, enormous schools of saddled bream and two-banded bream sweep the mid-water column, and Mediterranean moray eels reach exceptional sizes here. The wall's inaccessibility — Bisevo has no permanent facilities — keeps diver pressure minimal and marine life correspondingly bold.
