Desecheo Island

Desecheo Island is a US Fish and Wildlife marine reserve 22 km off Rincón's coast, with some of the clearest water in Puerto Rico and reef fish populations that have rebounded dramatically since commercial fishing was banned. The island's submerged pinnacles attract giant tarpon, large barracuda, and schools of Atlantic spadefish that circle divers with surprising confidence. Rocky boulders encrusted with orange elephant ear sponges, plate corals, and purple sea fans create a kaleidoscopic backdrop for one of the Caribbean's most intact reef ecosystems.
